"So Hard" is Kai Mata's departure from her solely folksy, acoustic sound into a realm of synth pop. Her new single is a request for others to view a relationship between two women in its truth; it is a relationship built on love.

Influenced by the witty wordplay and acoustic roots of Kacey Musgraves, along with the thematic explorations and electro pop sounds of Hayley Kiyoko, Kai Mata makes a stand for LGBTQ+ Equality, and invites listeners to stand with her.
